Hydroxypropyl Methyl Cellulose (HPMC)

A non-ionic cellulose ether made from natural plant cellulose. It is used as a thickener, water-retention agent, film-forming agent, and stabilizer in mortar, putty, coatings, and daily chemical products.

  • White or off-white powder, soluble in cold water.
  • Improves thickening, water retention, film formation, and thermal gelation.
  • Commonly packed in 25kg paper-plastic bags with PE inner liner.

Polymer Powder

Redispersible Polymer Powder (RDP)

RDP is a free-flowing white powder made by spray drying special polymer emulsions such as VAE. After adding water, it redisperses into a stable emulsion close to the original polymer dispersion.

  • Main types include VAE, vinyl acetate/versatate, and acrylic copolymers.
  • Improves adhesion, cohesion, flexibility, crack resistance, workability, and open time.
  • Typical solid content is at least 98%, with 25kg bags and six-month recommended shelf life.

Composition & Specs

HPMC focuses on cellulose ether performance. RDP uses VAE or related copolymers, PVA protective colloid, and anti-caking mineral fillers. Common RDP indicators include solid content >=98%, ash around 10±2%, bulk density 300-500 g/L, pH 6.0-8.0, and Tg from -15°C to above 0°C.

Performance Value

HPMC improves thickening, water retention, film formation, and thermal gel behavior. RDP improves bonding to difficult substrates, internal cohesion, flexural strength, elasticity, crack resistance, workability, and open time.

Applications & Storage

Used in tile adhesive, grout, external insulation systems, bonding mortar, plaster mortar, repair mortar, self-leveling mortar, putty, coatings, and one-component waterproof membranes. Store in a cool, dry, ventilated place, protected from moisture, sun, and rain.
